Ancient Truths to Building a Successful Business Part 1

Apply These Ancient Truths to Your Business and Succeed!

Treat others the way you would want to be treated. This statement is as true as they come. It was written in the Bible thousands of years ago and remains true to this day.

I know of some business people that will go to great lengths to protect themselves and their business interests, that they unnecessarily hurt their customers in the process. I’m guessing they may have been hurt in business themselves, and they have become paranoid. They practically view their customers and business associates as the enemy. This sign might be seen in their return policy. “No refunds, No returns, no matter what.” It keeps the number of returns down, but can kill the chance to building a relationship with the customer. They might even run a “Special of the week” and if a customer calls in to order it a day late, they refuse to extend the offer. This could be seen as being strict and uneasy. You don’t have to give the store away, however you can extend yourself and be a little fair.

I damaged a lot of important business relationships because of this. Now that I’ve fixed my attitude, I have fewer disputes and have learned that when the occasional dispute arises, it can be used as an opportunity to build a relationship. As Steven Covey teaches, “Seek first to understand, then to be understood. Give others the space to have their own opinion and perspective, even if it differs from yours.
