Surround Yourself With Mentors!

When I was younger I believed I could do everything by myself. This rebellious attitude served me well when it came to many things like sports. Yet later on in life this turned out to be my worst enemy. It took a while to be able to trust the ability of my mentors and I paid the price.

My first mentors found me to be very brazen and impatient. Early on they would often tell me their opinions, I wouldn’t agree, and I would go on to do my own thing my own way. This left me without mentors very fast. At the time it was tough, but it taught me one of the most important lessons of my life.

This led me to start searching for the answers to all of my problems. This led me to read books, listen to audio tapes, and listen to many speakers to figure out how to turn everything around. Then on e day it hit me. If I continued taking on the business world alone I would end up like the majority of Americans: Overworked, old, and playing “what if” games instead of making changes for the future. It was this day that I decided to change and get help. I realized that I needed to be more coachable.

The next five years I spent relearning everything I thought that I knew. I listened to some of the most successful speakers in the world and saw a pattern. They all surrounded themselves with coaches and mentors. I epiphany had come full circle. No matter how smart you are there is always a part of your life that can be improved. A coach or mentor can help you through this. I always recommend having at least one coach or mentor at all times.
